The Sunday Flower is a small delightful beachfront chic hotel located next to a fishing village at Santa Fe on Bantayan Island. It is rated as one and a half stars on a very beautiful and relaxing island. Possibly a true tropical island paradise.
Guests can enjoy just a short 50 - 75 meter walk from their air conditioned room directly to the variable tide line of the beach. The center of Santa Fe is only a 15 minute walk away from the Sunday Flower or 5 minutes by a tricycle cab. Restaurants, cafes, and small local stores are to be found. There is no supermarket. Souvenirs of Bantayan Island are not prominent. A local market is on Sunday mornings near the town center where churches have great music playing. It is often heard on other days. Another larger market is located at Bantayan township about 15 km away with local produce available daily.
At the Sunday Flower guests can enjoy the sunrise and sunset from the beach. There are nearby fishing areas with many small boats present. Most times of the year it is hot and humid, the coolest months are November to February. Accommodation prices have fallen in the last two years, making an affordable holiday. The electricity supply has not kept up with demand, and often does fail. The internet is very slow, and not always able to connect. Credit cards facilities are unavailable. Infrastructure on the island is weather dependent, typhoons, rain storms, off shore low pressures and high weather temperatures, are just normal events, and accepted by the local people. The pace of life is slow. A great place to leave your social media communication skills at home and just enjoy a holiday like it used to be without fast connecting technology. It is wise to book for weekends 2-3 weeks in advance. Karaoke is a feature in the area, for the locals enjoyment. And we are sure you will hear it, sometimes, quite loud. It can start around 6am and finish at 10pm some days. The ferry's will only sail if the sea is calm, and if enough persons are on board. The timetable fluctuates.
At the Sunday Flower Hotel we offer six rooms. Three are on the ground floor to each sleep three persons. These have a small porch which opens to sand to take you to the beach about half a minute away. The upper three each sleep two persons. A small kitchenette is present on one side, the other side has a veranda. Views here open to the sea, overlooking some smaller private local houses. Swimming in the sea is OK, but a better beach is located about a 500 metre walk to the east. This is great for smaller children.
There is an annex nearby of one Apartment for six people and one Studio for three people. There is no beach view. These offer air-conditioning, with a shared bathroom in the apartment, and a bathroom in the studio. Both have air conditioning , TV and a DVD player. Internet is available in the restaurant, just half a minute away.
Around the Sunday Flower there are many children, some cats and dogs and native chickens. You could hear the sounds of motor scooters, and small fishing boats. Look out for street vendors selling yogurt, fruit, cooked sweet corn, and parcels of sticky rice to eat. All are usually good to try. Pay with small coins. Immerse yourselves with the local culture, and you will be most welcome. Wear long light colouredclothing in the evenings if there is no wind, as mosquitoes may visit you. Accept it as it is, but please do write a review, so we can act upon any issues presented.
There are basic open type day cottages (not for night sleeping ) to rent for small to medium groups. Our resort staff at the Reception Desk can assist with bookings, housekeeping and basic meals in the dining area. The resort staff are available to assist you 18 hours a day. At night, a night guard provides security.
Bantayan Island is a great holiday destination as it can offer something to suit everyone; including singles, couples and families. With soft white powder sand and spectacular views, the beaches of Bantayan Island are said to be ( by reviews) the most beautiful in the Philippines. There is no diving, no canoeing, no volcanoes to climb. Great food, lively drinking places, with local beaches, and a lovely beach called Paradise beach, which is not to be missed. Island hopping to Virgin Island and Hilantagaan Island is worth exploring. Guests can tour the Island by motor-scooter or by bicycle to see the fantastic sites that the Island has on offer. Caves (hard to get to), Spanish relics at Madridejos, churches at Bantayan and Santa Fe need to be visited. Many inland tracks can be explored by motor scooter. The village of Maricabon has a great mangrove garden. Kayaks can sometimes be hired here.
The locals on Bantayan Island are always friendly and English is widely spoken. One of the many advantages of being on this Island is the abundance freshly caught fish and seafood that is on offer. There is a variety of nightlife available at Santa Fe, guests can relax with a quiet night in one of the many restaurants and bars, or can enjoy some local music and entertainment. These are not at the Sunday Flower.
At times there are fiesta's which tend to draw locals into Santa Fe. Holy week is particularly noisy and busy, and prices will be be raised. Before you arrive please download a map of Bantayan Island. Just let yourselves be immersed into the realm of life here, sit back with a cool drink and take it all in. Several nights is infinitely better than one or two nights, as there is lots to take in. Always keep hydrated, as the humidity, and heat can sap your spirit. Fresh coconut water is refreshing, rather than colored sugary soft drinks.
